In December of 1948, Dr. Cyril Brindley Hannibal Babb pleaded guilty to performing a fatal abortion on Doris Becker the previous Wednesday in his office. Doris was described in news coverage as a "blonde, 21-year-old Broadway model." Doris died 20 hours later at the apartment of a friend, Anne Martin.
Babb also admitted to committing 30 other abortions. He was sentenced to 6 1/2 to 12 years in prison for manslaughter and abortion.
Born in Georgetown, British Guiana on February 9, 1907, Babb was a 1935 graduate of the Meharry College of Medicine. He opened his New York city practice in 1939.
Babb worked in drug detox and ambulatory care at Harlem Hospital.
He died on August 4, 1987.
